Why do I need a Holistic Veterinarian you ask. Good question. Well the first 2 years of my life were, lets say, less than ideal. I was passed from home to home, shelter to shelter. I even ran wild and foraged for food for a while. There's more about my background if you're interested, in "How I came to adopt Mom and Dad". The only reason I mention it here is to say that when I rescued Mom and Dad I came with some health issues, early stages of kidney failure, anemia, a damaged leg from an old injury, a heart mumar and hypothyroidism.
While my Primary Care Veterinarian is really great with standard health care issues, things were not progressing as quickly as hoped, so Mom discussed the option of adding a Holistic Veterinarian to my health care team and she was immediately on board with the idea. Lucky for me, Mom used to work for a integrative (people) doctor that specialised in treating children on the Autism Spectrum. Mom said that she saw 10, 12, 13 year old children come in the office with variety of issues, many children were non-verbal, and seemed to be in world of their own. But within a few months of seeing the doctor she saw dramatic changes, many even started talking and carrying on fundamental conversations for the first time in their lives. She said it was like watching miracles.
So to get to the point, after a whole lot of research Mom found me Dr. Decker. Dr. Decker provides several treatments for me, a therapeutic nutritional diet, acupuncture, cold laser and chiropractic manipulation, the treatment that helps me the most is the acupuncture. I sure was skeptical at first when a Veterinarian, that I had never seen before, opened a box of needles! Gulp, I said NEEDLES!!! Then she stuck one right in the middle of my forehead!!! Yep, I said a needle in the forehead!!! However, I trusted mom and dad and did not move a muscle. Surprise surprrise, I didn't feel a thing, it didn't hurt at all. Dr. Decker then proceeded to stick needles all over me, see pic below, they never hurt at all, not once. I relaxed, laid down and went with the flow, and she gives treats afterwords, The GOOD TREATS!
I am pleased to say, while I still see Dr. Decker on an ongoing basis, my blood tests now show that my kidneys and anemia are all within normal ranges and my Acupuncture, Chiropractic Adjustments, and Cold Laser, treatments have me feeling like a new puppy.
